Complications associated with implant surgery can have a devastating effect on the outcome or the prognosis of dental implant treatment. This 1-day seminar will focus on how to identify, avoid, and successfully manage a diverse range of potential surgical implant complications. At the end of the seminar, participants will have a better understanding of the etiology, prevention, and management of a number of complications related to surgical implant therapy.
Topics include:
- Inadequate vertical and horizontal restorative space
- Incorrect angulations (buccolingual and mesiodistal)
- Malalignment
- Nerve injury
- Curved extraction socket
- Retained root tips at the insertion site
- Implant fracture
- Inadequate initial stability/loose implant
- Bone loss during the healing period/thread exposure
- Implant mobility during second-stage surgery
CE Credits: 5 hours

Louie Al-Faraje, DDS, is a California Dental Boardregistered continuing education provider and founder of the California Implant Institute. He is also the author of Surgical Complications in Oral Implantology: Etiology, Prevention, and Management (Quintessence, 2011).
