Aim: To present an interesting and rare case report of the effect of forced orthodontic eruption on root formation and eruption speed of an impacted tooth. Methods: Following periodontal exposure, a forced orthodontic eruption procedure was performed on a distoangularly impacted mandibular second premolar that showed little root formation prior to orthodontic force initiation. Radiographs were taken preoperatively and at 4, 8, 12, and 18 months postoperatively to follow the eruption progress and root formation. Results: Forced orthodontic eruption following periodontal surgical exposure accelerated both tooth movement and root formation. Conclusion: Failure of eruption should be diagnosed early and any obvious etiologic factors removed first. Orthodontic forced eruption is a viable treatment option and facilitates the eruption process and root formation, which, when diagnosed early, provides treatment options that benefit patients’ long-term dental health.
