This article describes the clinical application of a new superelastic Ni-Ti–stainless steel retraction spring used especially for canine retraction following the segmented archwire technique. The use of the new spring and its 2 configurations are demonstrated in a typodont experiment. Clinical experience with the new spring is presented in 2 patients; it produced canine retraction in these patients who required first premolar extraction. The use of the spring in both cases led to bodily tooth retraction without reactivation or any undesirable side effects. World J Orthod 2008;9:48–51.
