Aim: This study is meant to be a contribution to the long-term assessment of an orthopedic functional treatment. Methods: The representative patient began treatment at 8 years of age and is followed during and after treatment, to the age of 42. The treatment method is the Bimler Standard Type A appliance. Results: Long-term stability is good and, at age 42, there is no evidence of iatrogenic response. Conclusion: Since the introduction of the functional appliance, its followers claimed good stability for the treatment result. Only additional long-term studies will provide a base for a final judgment. World J Orthod 2001;2:73–81.
