Aim: To illustrate orthodontic treatment of a young patient who lost both maxillary central
incisors in an accident. Method: After careful case analysis, different treatment alternatives
were evaluated. The final decision was made to fill the space through orthodontic movement,
grinding, and reconstruction of the lateral incisors and the canines, and the extraction
of two mandibular premolars. Conclusion: This case illustrates how, in some cases of missing
teeth in the maxillary anterior region, a good esthetic and functional result can be
obtained by orthodontic space closure and tooth reconstruction. This shows that there are
no absolute treatment formulas and that many factors should be carefully analyzed before
deciding upon the best treatment approach. World J Orthod 2003;4:326–332 .
