Intracanal medications and antibiotics in the control of interappointment flare-ups

Acute exacerbation of symptoms, or flare-up, after the debridement of the root canals and provisional restoration is a well-known postoperative complication of endodontic treatment. In this clinical study, various types of intracanal medications were compared for their ability to decrease interappointment flare-ups. The result showed that use of intracanal medicaments containing anti-inflammatory agents in combination with the administration of prophylactic systematic antibiotics was the most effective mthod of controlling interappointment flare-ups.
