Fixed prostheses supported by osseointegrated implants ad modum Brånemark have been used for many years in oral rehabilitation with excellent results. Varying clinical situations have also resulted in a demand for overdentures supported by fixtures. This article presents the treatment results from a retrospective study on overdentures supported by fixtures. Eleven Swedish specialist teams participated in the study, which showed a high loss of fixtures in upper jaws with poor bone quality, often prior to loading with overdentures. In lower jaws, fixture survival after overdenture treatment was 99%. (INT J Oral MAXILLOFAC IMPLANTS 1988;3:129-134.)
