A Note of Thanks to All Involved

The miracle that is osseointegration, like other miracles in history, can be shrouded to some degree in myth and mystery. It takes a scientific analytic approach to separate fact from fancy, the real from the surreal.

This is precisely what was undertaken by the participants of this Consensus Conference on the State of the Science on Implant Dentistry. No group of scientific minds has attempted to do what they have to elevate the quality of implant treatment to historic levels.

For this the Academy of Osseointegration thanks both the conference participants—review authors and co-authors, section chairs, section secretaries, section participants—and the visionary corporate sponsors for their support in this endeavor. The Lead Sponsor, the Osseointegration Foundation, deserves special recognition, as do the Principal Sponsors, Astra Tech and Nobel Biocare; the Major Sponsors, Quintessence Publishing and Zimmer Dental; and the Supporting Sponsors, BIOMET 3i and Straumann USA. The planning of this conference spanned more then 3 years, and represents the efforts of countless individuals, including Organizing Committee members and Academy leadership.

Ultimately every patient in the world who might benefit from the blessings of osseointegration owes all who were involved a debt of gratitude. The world will long remember what they have labored to achieve with scientific clarity at this historic consensus conference.
