A review of the literature on laser application in pediatric dentistry—including caries diagnosis, caries prevention, cavity preparation, pit-and-fissure sealing, patient comfort, effects on bacteria, vitality testing, endodontics, and soft-tissue surgery—was performed and the potential of laser-assisted dentistry in children was assessed. Laser application in a number of soft-tissue surgical operations in children has proven to be successful. Laser-assisted diagnosis of caries combined with the appropriate preventive adhesive dentistry after laser-assisted cavity preparation will further lead to a new aspect of microdentistry based on “filling without drilling.” Children are the first in line for receiving this kind of dentistry.
