The Use of Lasers in the Treatment of Radiation Therapy-induced Side Effects

Igal Savion/Anat Sharon-Buller/Mordehai Sela

A common mode of treatment for patients who suffer from malignancies of the head and neck region is radiation therapy, which produces severe side effects, eg, oral mucositis, xerostomia accompanied by radiation caries, trismus, and tooth hypersensitivity. The successful treatment of these side effects with Er:YAG, CO2, and diode lasers is discussed here.
