Three-Dimensional Anisotropic Finite Element Analysis of Modified Bar-and-Clip Implant-Supported Overdenture in the Edentulous Mandible Under Punching Loads


Objective: This study investigated the patterns of stress distribution on bar-and-clip implant-supported overdentures and compared the effect of different restorative materials on stress distribution under punching loads. Stress analysis was carried out by means of three-dimensional anisotropic finite element method.Results: The results showed that peak stresses in implants with porcealin teeth seemed higher than those with resin teeth. On the contrary, there was little difference at the bone-implant interface, although a comparatively uniform stress distribution was found with resin teeth. Conclusion: This implies that resin teeth produce a cushioning effect on reducing the peak stresses in implants themselves under punching loads.
