Jun Cao, DDS, PhD/Zhu Lin, DDS, PhD/Yinzhong Duan, DDS, PhD/Yuzhen Zhang,/Jun Guo

Objective: To investigate the relationship between tongue size and open bite. Methods: The tongue sizes of the open bite and the normal occlusion groups were measured by B-mode ultrasonic imaging. The tongue sizes of the two groups were compared and the differences were evaluated by paired Student t-test to find correlation between tongue size and open bite. Results: The mean values of parameters for tongue sizes were larger in the open bite group than in the normal occlusion group. The difference was statistically significant. Conclusion: Large tongue size is a feature of open bite.
