Inhibitory Effects of Comfort Denture Adhesive on Fungal Growth

Ke Zhao, DDS, PhD/Xiang Rong Cheng, DDS/Man Wang, DDS

Objective: To evaluate the inhibitory effect of Comfort denture adhesive (Comfort-DA), which was developed by the authors, on the growth of Candida albicans. Materials and Methods: Eluates of the developed Comfort-DA were diluted with sterilized water to 75%, 50%, and 10% concentrations, while antifungal medicine was used as the positive control and sterilized water as the negative control. All the said solutions were maintained at 30C for about 24 hours, then the diameters of inhibitory fungi loops were measured. Results: All concentrations of Comfort-DA had a significant effect of inhibition on the growth of Candida albicans. Conclusion: The generally favorable in vitro evaluation of Comfort-DA showed that it could inhibit the growth of Candida albicans.
