Immunohistochemical Study of Heat Shock Protein 70 in Burred Rat Dental Pulp

Objective: To investigate the expression of heat shock protein 70 in burred rat dental pulp and its biologic role in restoring the injured dental pulp. Methods: The dynamic expression and location of heat shock protein 70 in rat dental pulp was detected using immunohistochemistry after rat teeth were burred; examination time points were from 4 hours to 14 days. Results: During the early stage after dental pulp injury, staining for heat shock protein 70 was strongly positive in the dental pulp. The staining gradually faded through the restoring stage, when it was still positive but weak. In addition, there were variations in staining intensity between different parts of the injured pulp during the same stage. Conclusion: These results suggest that after dental pulp injury, heat shock protein 70 has a dynamic expression and a variation of staining intensity in different parts of the injured pulp, which may indicate the need for molecular chaperones in stress response and injury restoration.
