Orthodontics, as a branch of stomatology, has a century of history. However, use of orthodontic techniques began much later in China than in the West. Fifty years ago, Mao Xiejun established an orthodontic clinic in the Faculty of Dentistry at Peking University. During the following 50 years, with the painstaking efforts of several generations in the orthodontic specialty, orthodontic treatment in China has progressed to the same level as that seen internationally.
