The purpose of this paper is to provide normative data concerning the submental and neck region so that variations in soft tissue form can be assessed. The variation of these measurements with altered physical characteristics and head posture is included. Also described is the application of these data to the diagnosis and postsurgical assessment of patients for whom surgical procedures were undertaken to effect mandibular retropositioning.
