Twenty-two patient who had Champy miniature monocortical bone plates for rigid fixation of the proximal and distal segments in sagittal split ostrotomies of the mandible were followed over a six-month period. Cephalometric radiographs were used to evaluate the pre- and post surgical positions of the jaws. Specific attention was paid to the temporomandibular joint, the postsurgical sensory changes in the lower lip, and skeletal stability with this procedure.
