Postorthodontic, presurgical, occlusal equilibration for orthognathic surgery cases

Binkley/Showfety/Tilghman/Wintermans

A clinical method is described by which the orthodontist can evaluate the occlusion with a single set of casts and then equilibrate the dentition using intraoral tooth contact marks. The technique is administered during presurgical orthodontic therapy in order to facilitate maximum intercuspation during surgery. This method is easily demonstrated and especially useful in anterior facial height. In these cases, the orthodontic component of treatment should be virtually completed prior to surgery.
