A comprehensive review of the deliberate hypotensive anesthesia technique is presented. The benefits and risks of the technique itself are discussed, as are the advantages and disadvantages of the pharmacologic agents, adjunctive drugs, and adjunctive techniques that have been used to produce deliberate hypotensive anesthesia. Recommendations regarding specific pharmacologic agents and adjunctive techniques are given.
