Naoki Aiba, CDT

maintains a laboratory in Monterey, California, and offers hands-on seminars at his teaching facility. He graduated from the dental technology program at the Dental School of Aichi Gakuin University in Nagoya, Japan, in 1982 and completed the postgraduate ceramics course at the Tokai Dental Technicians School in 1986. As a ceramist and professional photographer, he has lectured and taught hands-on courses internationally and has published on ceramics, dental photography, and dentist-laboratory communications. He currently serves as a member of the editorial board for Quintessence of Dental Technology and the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and is a technical advisory board member of the Monterey-Bay Salinas Study Club.


Anas Aloum, BDS, FACP

is a diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a fellow of the American Board of Prosthodontics. He completed his training in advanced prosthodontics and implant dentistry at USC and now maintains a private practice of interdisciplinary specialties in the United Arab Emirates. Dr Aloum has lectured nationally and internationally in the field of prosthodontics and has published articles on implant dentistry and esthetics.


Panos Bazos, DDS

received his DDS from USC in 2000 and then served as an assistant professor in the Division of Primary Oral Health from 2005 to 2007, mentoring undergraduate dental students in the disciplines of esthetic and restorative dentistry. Today he maintains a private practice limited to esthetic and restorative dentistry in Athens, Greece, and is the founder of the Bio-Emulation Group.


Markus B. Blatz, DMD, PhD, Dr med dent habil

is professor of restorative dentistry and chairman of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also founded the Penn Dental Medicine CAD/CAM Ceramic Center. Dr Blatz is a boardcertified diplomate of the German Society for Prosthodontics and Dental Materials Science as well as a member of several professional organizations. Recently, Dr Blatz founded and became president-elect of IAAD. He is an associate editor of Quintessence International and has published and lectured extensively on dental esthetics, restorative dentistry, and implantology.


August Bruguera, CDT

is the director of a dental laboratory and training center in Barcelona, Spain. He received his training as a technician specialist in dental prosthesis at Ramón y Cajal de Barcelona School and continued his studies in private laboratories in Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. Mr Bruguera is a member of the publishing committee for the dental magazines Dialogue (Spanish edition) and Estetica (Brazilian edition) and an honorary member of ACADEN (Associación Cientifica para Defensa e Investigación de la Protesis Dental). He has published numerous articles in national and international journals and in textbooks, including Shades: A World of Colour (Artes Medicas, 2009) and Invisible: Esthetic Ceramic Restorations (Puesta la Dia Publicaciones, 2003), issued in Portuguese, Spanish, English, German, Japanese, and Italian.


Gerard Chiche, DDS

is the Thomas P. Hinman Endowed Chair in Restorative Dentistry and director of the Center for Esthetic and Implant Dentistry at Georgia Regents University College of Dental Medicine in Augusta, Georgia. He is a past president of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and coauthor of two books, Esthetics of Anterior Fixed Restorations (with Alain Pinault) and Smile Design: A Guide for Clinician, Ceramist, and Patient (with Hitoshi Aoshima), both published by Quintessence. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Pankey Institute. Among his many honors and awards, Dr Chiche is the recipient of the 2003 Louisiana State University (LSU) Alumni Award, the 2003 Educational Community Achievement Award of the Seattle Study Club for dental educator of the year, and the 2007 Distinguished Lecturer Award of the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics. He was named the first recipient of the Endowed Chair in Restorative Dentistry by the Thomas P. Hinman Dental Society in 2009.


Christian Coachman, CDT, DDS

earned his certificate in dental technology in 1995 and his DDS degree from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, in 2002. He later attended the Ceramic Specialization Program at the Ceramoart Training Centre in Brazil. Dr Coachman started out his career working with his father, Dr Robert Gray Coachman, in São Paulo. In 2004, he was invited by Drs Goldstein, Garber, Salama, and Salama to become head ceramist of their laboratory in Atlanta, a position he held for over 4 years. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Dentistry, the Brazilian Society of Esthetic Dentistry, and the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He has lectured and published internationally in the fields of esthetic dentistry, dental photography, oral rehabilitation, dental ceramics, and implants.


Sillas Duarte, Jr, DDS, MS, PhD

is associate professor and chair of the University of Southern California Division of Restorative Sciences, where he is also director of the Advanced Program in Operative Dentistry. Dr Duarte is editor-in- chief of Quintessence of Dental Technology and serves on the editorial boards of several other journals and has published nationally and internationally on esthetic and adhesive dentistry. His research focuses on bonding to dental structures, composites, and ceramics.


Daniel Edelhoff, CDT, Dr Med Dent, PhD

earned his CDT degree from the Dental Technician School in Düsseldorf, Germany. He graduated from dental school in 1991 and earned his Dr Med Dent degree from the University of Aachen in 1994. He served as visiting professor at the Dental Clinical Research Center of the Oregon Health and Sciences University, Portland, Oregon, from 1999 to 2001. In 2003, he earned his PhD at the University of Aachen. Dr Edelhoff is currently a tenured associate professor in the Department of Prosthodontics and Dental Material Sciences at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. He is board certified in prosthodontics and holds membership in several German societies and other organizations. Among his awards and honors, Dr Edelhoff earned the award for Best Lecture in 2010 from the Association of Dental Technology (ADT), the award for Best Article of the Year from the Italian Dental Dialogue Journal, and two awards for Best Teacher in 2011 and 2012 from the dental students of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University and the Bavarian Association of Dentists. He received an international research grant from the German Scientific Society from 1999 to 2001 and is the author of numerous national and international clinical and research articles as well as scientific statements.


Jonathan L. Ferencz, DDS

is a board-certified prosthodontist who maintains a private practice in New York City. He is also a clinical professor of prosthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry and an adjunct clinical professor of restorative dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He is a fellow and past president of both the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics and the Northeastern Gnathological Society, a fellow of the American Academy of Prosthodontics and the New York Academy of Dentistry, and a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry and the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics. He is also past president of the American College of Prosthodontists. In addition to private practice and part-time teaching, Dr Ferencz has lectured throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia. He has over 25 publications in the dental literature and has been a reviewer for three prosthodontic journals. He is coeditor (with N. Silva and J.M. Navarro) of the new textbook, High-Strength Ceramics: Interdisciplinary Perspectives (Quintessence, 2014). Dr Ferencz is the recipient of the David Kriser Medal of NYU College of Dentistry; the Greater NY Academy of Prosthodontics Achievement Award and Distinguished Lecturer Award; and the American College of Prosthodontists Distinguished Service Award, Distinguished Lecturer Award, and Founders Society Award


Johan Figueira, DDS

received his dental degree from the School of Dentistry at the Central University of Venezuela, after which he entered the Esthetic Restorative Program at the UCLA Center for Esthetic Dentistry. Since graduating in 2013, Dr Figueira has continued at the UCLA Center for Esthetic Dentistry as a faculty member. He is currently a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and has presented numerous lectures and hands-on clinics internationally.


Mauro Fradeani, DMD

maintains a private practice limited to prosthetics on natural dentition and implants and is the founder and director of an advanced continuing education center in Pesaro, Italy. He is past president of both the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and the Italian Academy of Prosthetic Dentistry. He is an active member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics. Dr Fradeani is an associate editor for the European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry. He is the author of the two-volume series Esthetic Rehabilitation in Fixed Prosthodontics (Quintessence, 2004, 2008).


Iñaki Gamborena, DMD, MSD, FID

maintains a private practice in San Sebastian, Spain, where he dedicates his research to esthetics, restorative dentistry, and implants. He is also an affiliate professor at the University of Washington in Seattle, an assistant professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, and a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics at Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Georgia. In addition, he is an active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry. Dr Gamborena received the Bolender Contest Award for clinical and academic excellence for his work in prosthodontics at the University of Washington.


Galip Gürel, DDS, MSc

maintains a private practice specializing in esthetic dentistry in Istanbul, Turkey. He is a also a visiting professor at New York University, Marseille Dental University (France), and Istanbul Yeditepe University (Turkey). Dr Gürel is the founder and honorary president of EDAD (Turkish Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry). He was the 2011 and 2012 president of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. He is also a member of the American Society for Dental Aesthetics and the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, and he is an honorary diplomate of the American Board of Aesthetic Dentistry. He is the editor-in-chief of the Turkish edition of Quintessence International and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and the European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry. He is the author of The Science and Art of Porcelain Laminate Veneers (Quintessence, 2003), which has been translated into 10 different languages.


Naoki Hayashi, RDT

graduated from Japan Osaka Dental University in 1992. Soon after graduation, he worked in the National Dental Laboratory in Japan. He currently works as a master ceramist in Irvine, California. Mr Hayashi lectures all over the world about current trends in dental technology and treatment planning. He is also an instructor for Waseda Ceramic Training Center and for Noritake. Mr Hayashi is the author of A Diary through the Lens (Quintessence, 2005) and Past << Future – Envision 77 Heart Beats (Ishiyaku, 2011) as well as more than 30 journal articles. He continues to share his knowledge and skill by offering hands-on workshops all over the world.


Paulo Kano, DDS, MSD, CDT

has held various academic positions in São Paulo and Florianópolis, Brazil, and has been a dental technician since 1974. He has also maintained a private practice since 1988. He is the author of Challenging Nature: Wax-Up Techniques in Aesthetics and Functional Occlusion (Quintessence, 2011), which has been translated into five languages.


Matthias Kern, DMD, PhD, FADM

is currently professor and chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics, Propaedeutics, and Dental Materials at Christian-Albrechts University at Kiel in Germany. Dr Kern is a recipient of the GNYAP Schweitzer Research Award. He is president of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry.


Sidney Kina, DDS, MS

graduated from the Santa Catarina School of Dentistry, Florianópolis, Brazil, and earned an MS degree from Piracicaba da Unicamp University, Brazil. He is the author of the books Invisible Esthetic Ceramic Restorations (Artes Medicas, 2007) and Equilibrium: Adhesive Ceramic Case Book (Artes Medicas, 2009). From 2004 to 2009, he was the editor of the Dental Press Journal of Esthetic Dentistry. Dr Kina is an honorary member of the Brazilian Society of Esthetic Dentistry.


Pascal Magne, Dr med dent, PhD

is a tenured associate professor and the Don and Sybil Harrington Foundation Professor of Esthetic Dentistry in the Division of Restorative Sciences at USC. He earned his Dr med dent from the University of Geneva School of Dental Medicine, Switzerland, in 1989, his doctorate in 1992, and his PhD degree in 2002. He served as a lecturer there from 1989 to 1997. From 1997 to 1999, he was a visiting associate professor at the Minnesota Dental Research Center for Biomaterials and Biomechanics, University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Dr Magne is a recipient of multiple awards from the Swiss Science Foundation and the Swiss Foundation for Medical-Biological Grants; recipient of the 2002 Young Investigator Award from the International Association for Dental Research; and recipient of the 2007 and 2009 Judson C. Hickey Scientific Writing Award from the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry.


Edward McLaren, DDS, MDC

is a prosthodontist, professor, and director of Postgraduate Esthetic Dentistry at the UCLA School of Dentistry. He is also an adjunct assistant professor for the University of Oregon dental school. He is the director of the UCLA Center for Esthetic Dentistry, a full-time didactic and clinical program for graduate dentists, as well as the founder and director of the UCLA Master Dental Ceramist program, a full-time residency program for dental technicians. Dr McLaren maintains a private practice limited to prosthodontics and esthetic dentistry for which he does all of his own ceramics. He has authored over 80 articles, is currently performing ongoing clinical research on various restorative systems, and has presented numerous lectures and hands-on clinics on ceramics and esthetics. He is also the author of The Art of Passion: A Photographic Journey.


Jürgen Mehrhof, MDT, MS

completed his dental technician training in Speyer am Rhein and later earned an MS degree in Berlin, Germany. Since 1995, he has operated his own dental laboratory in Berlin specializing in function, all-ceramic restorations, and implant-supported superstructures. He was appointed as a member of the Oral Design Group in 2003 and was a founding member of the Dental Excellence International Laboratory Group. He lectures nationally and internationally and is the author of many journal articles.


Ricardo Mitrani, DDS, MSD

received his DDS degree from the UNITEC University of México City. He then obtained a certificate in prosthodontics as well as an MSD degree from the University of Washington, where he served as assistant director of the graduate prosthodontics program. He currently holds academic affiliations at the University of Washington and the National University of México. Dr Mitrani is a member of many professional organizations and serves on the editorial boards of several prestigious journals. He has authored numerous scientific publications and chapters in textbooks in the fields of implant prosthodontics and esthetic dentistry and has given more than 330 lectures in more than 25 countries all over the world. He maintains a private practice limited to prosthodontics and implants in México City.


Tal Morr, DMD, MSD

maintains a private practice limited to esthetic, implant, and complex restorative dentistry in Aventura, Florida. He received his DMD degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and then went on to study at the University of Washington’s prosthodontic program, where he received a certificate in prosthodontics and an MSD degree. Dr Morr lectures nationally and internationally on esthetics, implants, and full-mouth rehabilitation and has published articles on veneers, implants, and complex prosthetics. He is a member of numerous professional organizations such as the American College of Prosthodontics, the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and many local study clubs.


Jin-Ho Phark, DDS, Dr med dent

is an assistant professor of clinical dentistry in the University of Southern California Division of Restorative Sciences, where he also serves as the director of the Dental Biomaterials Research Laboratory and as the codirector of the Advanced Program in Operative and Esthetic Dentistry. He is an associate editor of Quintessence of Dental Technology. Dr Phark serves as reviewer for several journals and has lectured and published nationally and internationally. His main research interest is in the field of biomaterials. He is the recipient of the IADR Arthur Frechette Award in Prosthodontics.


Giuseppe Romeo, MDT, CDT

received his dental technician training in Torino, Italy, and then earned his MDT degree in esthetic prosthodontics following 2 years of university study in Torino and in Geneva, Switzerland. He completed his education abroad by working in the United States and in Switzerland. He has published articles in several prominent journals and contributed to two books: Precision in Dental Esthetics by Domenico Massironi and Romeo Pascetta (Quintessence, 2006) and Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry by Douglas Terry and Willi Geller (Quintessence, 2012). Mr Romeo is a member of the Oral Design Group and ARCO (Italian Lecturer for Dental Technology Culture) as well as the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, the Council Member Design Technique International, and the Academy of Microscope-Enhanced Dentistry. He currently serves as a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Restorative Sciences at USC.


Avishai Sadan, DMD, MBA

is both dean and the G. Donald and Marian James Montgomery Professor of Dentistry at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. Dr Sadan is the former editor-inchief of both Quintessence International and Quintessence of Dental Technology. He has served on the editorial boards for other journals and has lectured and published nationally and internationally on biomaterials, esthetics, and implant dentistry. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Prosthodontists, the Academy of Osseointegration, the American College of Dentists, the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.


Neimar Sartori, DDS, MS, PhD

is an assistant professor of clinical dentistry in the University of Southern California Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences. He is also assistant director of the Advanced Program in Operative Dentistry. Dr Sartori serves as a reviewer for several journals and has published nationally and internationally on esthetic and adhesive dentistry. His research focuses on preventing bonding degradation of the adhesive interface formed between dental structures and restorative materials.


Oswaldo Scopin de Andrade, DDS, MS, PhD

received his DDS degree from the State University of Campinas School of Dentistry in Piracicaba, São Paulo, Brazil, in 1990. In 1996, he received a certificate in advanced postgraduate prosthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry. He has earned MS and PhD degrees in prosthodontics from the State University of Campinas School of Dentistry. Dr Scopin de Andrade returned to Piracicaba in 1997, where he maintains a private practice emphasizing implant and restorative esthetic dentistry. He has published several articles in esthetic dentistry, prosthodontics, and oral implantology and is a member of the editorial boards of several publications in Brazil as well as Quintessence of Dental Technology. Dr Scopin de Andrade has served as director of the Advanced Program in Implant and Esthetic Dentistry, SENAC University in São Paulo for more than 10 years. Since 1998, he has dedicated himself to teaching esthetic and implant dentistry at the postgraduate level at several institutions, congresses, and events worldwide.


Francesca Vailati, MD, DDS, MSD

earned her medical degree from the University of Bari (Italy) in 1996 and her dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2000. In 2003, she earned a certificate in prosthodontics along with an MSD degree from the University of Connecticut. Returning to Europe, she joined the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics at the University of Geneva (Switzerland), where she remains as a senior lecturer. Dr Vailati maintains a part-time private practice dedicated to esthetic restorative dentistry and prosthodontics. She has contributed several articles in the fields of restorative dentistry and implantology and lectures on a variety of topics related to full-mouth adhesive rehabilitation and implant prosthodontics.


Eric Van Dooren, DDS

attended the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium, where he received his degree in dentistry in 1982. After graduation, he opened a private practice in Antwerp, Belgium, limited to periodontics, fixed prosthodontics, and implants. Currently, Dr Van Dooren is a visiting professor at the University of Liege (Belgium) and the University of Marseille (France). He is an active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. In addition, he serves on the editorial staff of Teamwork (Germany) and the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and is a member of the Belgian Dental Society. Dr Van Dooren lectures nationally and internationally, mainly on esthetics, implants, and esthetic periodontal surgery.


Aki Yoshida, RDT

started his career at Tanaka Dental Clinic in Tokyo, Japan, after graduating from the Dental Technician School of Nihon University in 1983. He came to the United States to accept a position at the laboratory of the renowned prosthodontist Lloyd L. Miller in 1991. He also serves as a technical instructor at Tufts University Department of Postgraduate Prosthodontics in Boston and as an instructor for Kuraray Noritake. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and an executive board member of the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry. Mr Yoshida has presented numerous handson courses and lectures throughout the United States, South America, Europe, and Asia. He is a four-time masterpiece technician in the Japanese Quintessence of Dental Technology and has published several articles on anterior esthetic restorations in the English QDT.


Naoto Yuasa, RDT

completed his dental technician training in 2002 and his advanced dental technician training in 2004 at Toho Dental College in Tokyo, Japan. After graduation, he worked as a ceramist at a dental clinic in Kanagawa, Japan, and since 2008 he has served as a chief ceramist at a dental clinic in Tokyo.
