Interest in implant dentistry among clinicians has increased during the past decade in response to the demand of patients, especially partially endentulous ones, for the best possible esthetic outcome. This book presents current guidelines for optimizing the functional and esthetic result of the “third dentition,” including successful integration of the implant with bone to achieve long-term maintenance of implant stability; the use of anterior maxilla classification to help the practitioner in implant treatment; bone augmentation procedures that contribute to the proper positioning and alignment of implants; evaluation of the variety of prosthetic components now used in implant dentistry; and a discussion of potential future applications, such as successful one-stage surgical application of the Brånemark implant system. Numerous case-study illustrations help make this edition particularly useful for clinicians.

Preface:
In early 1990, several distinguished clinicians and researchers were invited to contribute to Dr Palacci’s first book, Optimal Implant Positioning & Soft Tissue Management for the Brånemark System, published in 1995. The book was an immediate success and especially appreciated by clinicians.
Several years ago we began to revise the text and expand the material. Several well-known experts in the field, including researchers and clinicians from Europe and the United States, have contributed to the revised edition, Esthetic Implant Dentistry: Soft and Hard Tissue Management.
This book presents current guidelines for optimizing the functional and esthetic result of the “third dentition.” Minor bone augmentation procedures are described with their specific indications for optimizing implant positioning and creating an adequate soft tissue support. The papilla regeneration technique is presented with specific modifications related to single-tooth replacements and anterior ridge augmentation. The latest prosthetic developments using the Brånemark implant system to achieve optimal precision and esthetics are presented. Finally, the early functional loading concept based on current research and clinical experience is discussed.
We greatly appreciate the work and cooperation of the contributors and also gratefully acknowledge the excellent collaboration of Quintessence.

Reviews
"...The authors provide a thorough description of esthetic and functional risk factors that must be considered for success. Readers will learn how to manage these factors as they acquire knowledge about techniques for hard and soft tissue surgical techniques, case design and the appropriate use of Nobel Bio Care prosthetic components. The techniques provide solid restorative solutions for fully and partially edentulous patients, as well as those with missing single teeth."
